I haven’t noted this yet, but a lot of the dialog in these comics is copied verbatim from the actual play, or least only very lightly paraphrased. "We have to give up cock," is literally how Lysistrata’s line is translated, and that’s really kind of delightful. I think your worldview changes a little bit once you realize that humanity has been swearing and talking constantly about sex since they fell out of the trees.
In the last panel, I posit a loophole in the “no sex” clause of this play that isn’t actually written in the text itself. That said, as Sappho of Lesbos would later demonstrate, a whole lotta girl lovin’ was going on in ancient Greece, whether it’s mentioned or not.
