Chapter: English Literature During The Romantic Period

Welcome back to Lit Brick. I don't plan on leaving for a while. The strip will update Monday through Friday for the foreseeable future, as most people seem to really, really like it. If you're one of those people, be sure to spread the word around. Thanks!

We're picking up right where we left off and talking about Lord Byron. For the next few days, we'll look at Byron the man, then dig into his work a little. To begin our discussion, Lord Byron owned a bear. Seriously. Trinity College wouldn't let him have a dog, so he got a bear instead to stick it to the man. Well done, Byron. Well done. I hope it didn't eat anyone.

Secondly, as alluded to in the first panel, Lord Byron was Ada Lovelace's dad. That said, he had very little to do with Ada Lovelace being awesome, because he was kind of a scumbag and Ada's mom almost immediately divorced Byron and gained full custody of their child.

This is the inherently troublesome part of talking about Byron: the rad dude that owned his own bear was also human garbage. That said, he was human garbage that wrote some really nice poems, so I guess we let it slide. For now.

Author: Lord Byron • Year: 1788 to 1824 • Info: Wikipedia
