Scarlok is Will Scarlet, and he appears in the earliest editions of the Robin Hood myth. Will is traditionally described as a bit of a dandy, with elegant clothes of red silk. In "Gest," his name is spelled as I've been using it in the comic. He probably wasn't a robot. Probably.
