Goblin Market (1)
Publication Date: December 09, 2015
Chapter: The Victorian Age
Goblin Market is a fable that's either about the danger of traditional marriage or about lesbians. Maybe both! Metaphorically, the goblins in question are Victorian Old Dudes trying to make brides out of every woman in England, forcing their "food" into the the mouths of young women. This sucks the life out of the women, as you'd expect. Queer theory interprets the poem as men usurping lesbian relationships, denying what the women really want. There's actually a lot going on here, and it's heavy stuff.
Naturally, I just drew silly comics about girls and fruit.
