So, some poor dumb kid refuses to leave his post until given permission by his father. His father, who is dead. Someone's gotta tell this kid that it isn't heroism to stay and die on a boat full of dead guys and gunpowder. You find a lifeboat and sail the hell out of there. Admittedly, he probably would've just starved to death in the boat days later, but still.
