Duke Frederick isn’t a particularly good guy. He usurped the throne from Rosalind’s father, the Old Duke (seriously, his name is the Old Duke), then kept Rosalind around while forcing her father into exile. Duke Fred (which sounds remarkably similar to King Ralph) is less than thrilled when Rosalind tries to shack up with Orlando, so he trumps up an excuse to have her banished. The problem with this banishment? Duke Fred can’t actually think of an actual reason. When pressed on why Rosalind is being exiled, he just kinda shurgs and says “Because I said so.”
