Lysistrata (13)
Publication Date: December 1, 2014
Chapter: Ancient Mediterranean and Near Eastern Literature
Translations for this segment vary with regard to the character of Reconciliation. Some translations say that she’s only barely clothed. Other translations say that she’s straight-up naked. I guess it doesn’t matter that much, I just thought it worth mentioning. In any event, Lysistrata brings Reconciliation into the room in order to taunt and confound the men present. The men, ready to burst, quickly agree to any and all terms Lysistrata lays before them. The sight of this shapely, naked(?) woman literally drives them mad. Peace has come to ancient Greece, but should the women be celebrating?
