The Beggar's Opera, Part 8
Publication Date: April 2, 2012
Chapter: English Literature During The Restoration And The Eighteenth Century
I've seen a few comments about how Macheath is actually a notorious serial killer in the German version of this play (the Threepenny Opera, if memory serves). In this, the original version, Macheath is more of a highwayman. He's a scoundrel, a thief, and a man-slut, but I haven't gotten the impression that he actively murders people. That said, it's possible I just missed that part in my speed reading.
