Doctor Faustus (12 of 19)

Publication Date: March 8, 2011

Chapter: English Literature in the Sixteenth Century

Faustus' second request makes a lot more sense than his first: he wants a wife. Sadly, Mephistophilis says it's a no-go, as marriage is a holy act and beyond the means of the dark lord. Given the dubious sanctity of marriage these days, that's really kind of hilarious.
