The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle (4 of 5)
Publication Date: December 2, 2010
Chapter: Yuletide Jamboree
It's something of a pet peeve of mine when people roll up to a bar in movies and just order "a beer." As if there weren't seventy-zillion different kinds out there. Even in the 1800s, I'm pretty sure that if you just asked for a beer, you'd have to get a bit more specific. And honestly, Sherlock Holmes of all people should know better.
Anyway, the worst thing about this scene isn't the dramatic license in beer ordering, it's the fact that Holmes orders two beers, then leaves moments later. Presumably, the bartender had already poured the beers, thus leaving him with two unpaid pints on the counter. Now, unless the bartender drinks those himself, he's gonna have to pour them out, wasting valuable product that'll eventually cut into his profit margin.
Which is to say, Sherlock Holmes is a jerk, and possibly has it in for small business owners.
Oh, and sorry for the supreme laziness in the art department. I'm currently knee-deep in moving right now, and I'm sure you all know how much fun that can be. Between packing, cleaning, and just driving around, things have been pretty hectic around here. Things'll be back up to snuff in a week or so, though, so just bear with me for the time being. Thanks.
