The Tunning of Elinour Rumming

Publication Date: September 21, 2010

Chapter: English Literature in the Sixteenth Century

The Tunning of Elinour Rumming is a truly bizarre and fairly raucous long poem, our first entry in the legendary Sixteenth Century (aka, when English Literature stopped sucking). The excerpt in the Norton is all about how Elinour runs her pub, and it goes into great deal about how she makes her beer, as well as how awesome said beer is. It is distinctly possible, in fact, that this is the first reference in literature to beer goggles, though I could also be making that up.

Author: John Skelton • Year: c. 1517 to 1545 • Info: Wikipedia
