And in entirely random news, in addition to today’s Lit Brick and Mary Elizabeth’s Sock, I posted a random Sporkman comic. Yay!

It occurs to me that the latest news post on the site says that Lit Brick is dead as a doornail. Obviously, it’s not. I managed to let the comic lie for two and a half weeks before drawing the stupid thing again. Go figure.

In any event, the comic will be updating Monday through Friday again, for the foreseeable future, because not only did I restart the damn comic, but I changed the schedule back to daily too. Your Tuesdays and Thursdays will be a little happier again.

The Pilgrims were… how to put this delicately… um… douchebags. In this particular instance, a hardy sailor is poking some fun at the Pilgrims for the ease with which they get sea-sickness. Shortly thereafter, Bradford gives God the credit for killing the sailor, and notes how pleased all the Pilgrims were with his death. I mean, seriously? “Thanks, God, for killing that mildly annoying, yet entirely innocent, guy for us.”

Actually, something about this whole scene just doesn’t sit right with me. Bradford notes that Jerk Sailor is a lusty young man, full of strength and vigor. A week later, Jerk Sailor is dead. Yet, throughout the rest of the voyage, no one else dies except for one sickly child at the very end. Which is to say, on a boat full of feeble, sad sack missionaries, the robust young sailor is the only one that ends up poisoned? And no one thinks that’s suspicious?

Remember, friends: God loves, man kills. If only the evidence hadn’t been thrown overboard…

In non-Pilgrim-related news, the WLP Podcast featured a rather glowing review of Lit Brick! Their review of MESS was less glowing, but as long as I’m doing one comic right, I can deal with it. In any event, WLP is a pretty groovy podcast, so give it a listen.

Alright, perhaps more commentary is in order. I really did plan on leaving Lit Brick to the ravages of time for at least a year, and even then, I only intended to return with self-contained eBooks (still in the cards, FYI). But the sheer outpouring of grief at the comic’s passing honestly surprised the hell out of me. A lot of people came out of the woodwork, both in the comments here and elsewhere, just to mention how sad they were about the comic ending. Even in the past two weeks, I’ve gotten multiple requests to just draw any LB strip, scheduled or not.

Thus, despite the relatively low readership statistics, I couldn’t keep this strip buried. You guys may be a small niche, but damned if you don’t have spunk. That said, Mary Elizabeth’s Sock still takes priority in my work schedule. As such, while I’m saying that Lit Brick is daily for the moment, I won’t hesitate to pause it for a few days if MESS needs my attention.

But man, two and a half weeks? I think that might win the award for “Shortest Comic-Quitting Ever.”
