		<description>Yup, beer was safer, and in Europe that&#039;s why as many people who could drank &quot;watered wine&quot; as it killed most bacteria in the untreated water. Most commonly cholera back in those days, but other water borne illness too. The poor who couldn&#039;t afford wine had to drink plain water more often and got more sick more frequently leading to more widespread outbreaks due to poor sewage disposal, as it often landed back in the wells making more people sick.</description>

		<description>If he&#039;s the leader of the group, he probably just plain at better and avoided the really dangerous jobs.  Like an officer in an army.  You&#039;ll rarely hear of anyone higher than rank Captain fall in the line of duty.  Why?  Majors are given real food, and a dang office.</description>
