The Epic of Gilgamesh (Part 04)

The sheer number of stupid pop culture references I just managed to cram into a single comic are truly impressive.

So Gilgamesh didn’t know any of the Soviet breakaway republics, or South Africa, I take it?

I *knew* you were a TMBG fan! How could you not have been?!!?!

If I didn’t already love your comic with my whole heart, this would have been the clincher. :D

I’m just waiting to see how the following are handled:
    * Giglamesh being genetically 2/3rds God (which is technically possible… it just requires 4k generations of breeding between humans and gods… or roughly about three nights of Greek Mythology content)
    * Gilgamesh having sex with Brides after they get married to have his genetic seed sown into them… that was part of why people got irritated with him… all the first borns were children of Giglamesh.
    * Ishtar’s gender as “the Temple Prostitute Goddess”… as in the original, Ishtar makes a pass at Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh denies it, know how Enkidu was tempted by Gilgamesh to his new state of raging alcoholic, and knowing only a similar fate would be in store for Gilgamesh.

Actually, I want to know which “Sporkman Actor” you have as the deitification of Temple Prostitutes more than anything else.

Huh. Instead of Gilgamesh, that reference to ‘a time before the flood’ makes my mind keep flashing to the stories of Robert E. Howard’s King Kull… ^^; Annnnd now the Conan images are popping up.

Oh my god, a ‘They Might Be Giants’ Reference.

… Yes an odd thing to comment on.

Must. Fight. This. Off to sing Yakko’s Universe instead. “It’s a great, big universe and we’re all really puny. We’re just tiny little specks about the size of Mickey Rooney ….”

Yay, Animaniacs reference. And one of my favourite bits. Got to see him do it at Calgary Comic Con.

I’m glad I’m not alone in this. It’s telling that I had the tune in my head before I even read the speech bubble.

Okay, the final panel is my favorite, hands down. But all the jokes aside, I love the outfit Gilgamesh is rocking here. Scaled, with asymmetrical straps? Sweet!
