A popular song of the early 1950s was “Every Tom, Dick, and Harry’s named John.” True.
I have loved the Beggar’s Opera since I saw the video version when I was a kid. With *ROGER DALTREY* as Macheath. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Swt0vXi18Ss http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQVmwBk_4MA
It was really weird, when I discovered the Who a few years later, and did a doubletake.
That’s the same way I felt when I saw him on Highlander the TV Series a few years before discovering the Who.
Every man had three quarters of him named John? I bet they bragged all of the remaining 25% was named Dick.
I had the EXACT SAME THOUGHT
but without the Dick joke. Well done!
Was this strip at all inspired by the old line about the success of the Beggar’s Opera making “Gay rich and Rich gay”?
It wasn’t, but that IS a great line. I just found it fascinating how many people involved with the play were named John Adjective.
I would go one over and say that Jonathan Swift is Lucius Malfoy.
Alex has a talking hat! Someone call the Spanish Inquisition!
You don’t CALL the Spanish Inquisition. The Spanish Inquisition bursts into your room at night.
Nobody can expect the Spanish Inquisition, it’s thier policy.
Believe it or not, a year ago, I would not have understood the last panel at all. But I do.
And it’s awesome.
