The Reformation

Publication Date: October 5, 2010

Chapter: English Literature in the Sixteenth Century

Obviously this comic isn't in reference to any particular work, but since the Reformation is laced throughout everything I'm reading right now, I figured a comic riffing on it wasn't out of line. As a movement, it was both horrible and amazing. It began with Henry killing everybody, and ended with people being more or less free to practice whatever the hell they wanted (although they still ended up shipping all the particularly crazy people to America). In any event, when the king starts declaring himself the leader of the church, you know you're in trouble.

Now, for those of you who were reading this comic with a somewhat puzzled expression, rest assured that you're a way cooler person than I am. I'll let the following anecdote speak for itself. I was hanging out with my friends one night and somehow the following question was muttered: "What's the Klingon afterlife?" Of course, though it was clearly supposed to go unanswered because we're "cooler" than that, I answered it without hesitation: "Sto'Vo'Kor."

And then I got made fun of for several minutes. What can I say? I love Deep Space Nine.
