Ah, Moby-Dick. One of the great American novels.


Yeee-ep. Alright, so it's not that bad. It's just really hard to get into. And it's very, very gay. Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course, but when a character wakes up in a bed with a large man snuggling him like a teddy bear, it's hard not to go crazy with the queer theorizing.

Anyway, if you look at Moby-Dick that way, Melville was really quite progressive. Not only did he have a clearly gay couple, but they were interracial too! Way to go, Herman! Stick it to the conservative base!
