I couldn’t end the strip without Deirdre putting in one last proper appearance. Just wouldn’t be right.
Also, if you’re curious, those numbers were not completely random. They do have a bit of meaning, though not much.

vplamondon already got the first part with 4:05 being the “best of times” as being 4/5 the date of the first ever Lit Brick. The worst of times, 1/27, is of course the final planned Lit Brick.
DING DING DING.
Aww! Darn, I did read that you would start working on another project January 30, but I failed to connect the dots and realize that would make January 27, 2012 Lit Bricks last comic. Funny how I was so close to the right answer, and I missed the obvious, because I wasn’t paying enough attention.
I look forward to your new project, but please, don’t torture us with more riddles.
eh, it was kind of fun.
I believe I have my finger on the answer, but it yet eludes me. Maybe someone might figure it out if I shared what I have yet deducted, if I am on the right track.
April 5, 2010 is Lit Bricks first comic (4:05 AM) which would make 1:27 PM, January 27, 2011, and 4:20 PM April 20, 2011.
I am missing something somehow, because though I could see how Troutman would consider the publishing of his webcomic as “the best of times”, no clue exist as to why the comic on January 27, 2011, or that particular date, would be the “worst of times” and I am equally stumped by the comic for April 20, 2011.
All I have to say is “Dang riddles!!!”
You are very, VERY close. But you can ignore 4:20 – as noted below, it’s just a reference to Deirdre’s dubious habit.
I believe you’ll find that January 27, 2012 is the worst of times.
JINX (with Totz, above).
Okay, assuming I counted right, the best of times is litbrick page 405(guillerver’s travels 4 of 20(coincidence?)), where we see Nicholle in her undies about to sink a fleet.
The worst of times, then, is page 127 (since there doesn’t seem to be a page 1327). This is Utopia (2 of 6), where we learn that Utopia doesn’t have beer.
I think this says a lot about mister troutman
You’re the closest so far, but still no cigar!
This comic is obviously referring to Micah 4:5, “All the nations may walk in the names of their gods, but we will walk in the name of the LORD our God for ever and ever.” or possibly Song of Songs 4:5, “Your breasts are like two fawns, like twin fawns of a gazelle that browse among the lilies.” and also to Leviticus 13:27, “On the seventh day the priest is to examine that person, and if it spreading in the skin, the priest shall pronounce them unclean; it is a defiling skin disease.”
I mean what is better than walking in the name of the LORD our God (I am thinking Troutman might have gone with boobs, since he has confessed to being a pervert before), and there is simply no other time of day that would be as bad as getting leprosy.
Gee whiz, how did everyone miss that?
This is totally wrong, but I think you win anyway.
Win what? A new bible? I hope not, I already have one. Ooooooh!!! Is it A Tale of Two Cities Barbie Dreamhouse?
Sorry. I just happened upon your webcomic in a facetious moment. Really like Lit Brick though, it cracks me up.
I would have thought that 4:03 am (403 FORBIDDEN) would be the worst, and 1:37 pm (1337 hours) would be the best. Because 2:00 in the morning is just (200 OK).
I want to run that gaming table.
Um, isn’t 4:20 a marijuana reference?
That one is, yes!
That explains quite a bit about Deirdre, then.
You know, thinking about it, you could get an extra punchline out of Diedre betting on 4:20 for BOTH. It’s the best of times, because she’s getting high, and it’s the worst of times since 4/20 is Hitler’s birthday.
I must say: the beginning of A Tale of Two Cities is one of the best beginnings in Literature history.
If I recall correctly, 4:05 AM is also approximately when the number of deaths in hospitals peak. Apparently people have weaker immune systems at that time. Or something. Give or take an hour.
But why would that be the BEST of times then?
Because unlike all those other folks, I didn’t die then.
Are your favorite quotes from the book on pages 127 and 405?
Incidentally, I’d probably have switched the two. 11:27 PM is almost always fun, but 4:05 AM usually means I’m pulling an all-nighter, or have gotten to the point where I no longer know what’s happening in the anime we’re watching because I can no longer read subtitles.
